What are the methods of hardness test on aluminium alloys?

How about a Brindle Hardness Tester? Essentially what it does is push a steel (or now tungsten I think) ball-bearing down into the surface with a known pressure (delivered by means of a vise-like mechanism, then a pneumatic pump), then checking the diameter of the indentation with a little graticule-microscope.
