Plants that only need water occasionally?

Can anyone help me out? In those little brochure things that come with papers i have seen some fern type house plants that act as a repellent to insects and that only need water occasionally. I am trying to find the name of them and of course haven't had a brochure for ages. thanks in advance it's not the rose of jericho plant
